Quo vadis, WTA? The power of Serena Williams

We all might know who Serena Williams is. Just in case, for those of you who are not intrested in tennis and actually don’t know much about her, she’s the champion of 23 Grand Slams (the biggest tournaments in tennis calendar), one of the most high paid athletes in the world and leader of WTA Ranking during 307 weeks. What’s more, this year she reached a Wimbledon final only after 7 months (!) after giving birth to her daughter Alexis.

But as we all know her career is slowly coming to an end. Serena, 36 years old, claims that her goal is to participate in next Olympic Games which is in 2020, but she’s not sure whether her body will be able to stay away from the injuries during those 2 long seasons.

This announcement has produced the big debate in tennis world: what may happen after she Will say goodbye to tennis courts all around the world? Who’s going to attract as many fans as her impulsive character and her powerful play full of spectacular aces and winners?

The thing is, no one is as interesting and attracts media and fans as she does. Nor her elder sister Venus, nor Sloane Stephens, who is crowned by American media to become her successor nor Simona Halep, the actual leader of WTA Tour. Tennis needs Serena Williams. What’s interesting, the ratings of woman’s matches decreased when Serena announced her pregnancy and was absent from competitive sport.

So who’s gonna be her successor? Next week we’ll take a look at the some familiar faces who could replace the fame and the pride of Serena Williams.
